Pulau Bali 2007 - My backyard

Selamat datang...

Arriving in Bali

The first day in Bali we had dinner in Kuta and strolled along the beach. We decided to take it easy because we had just came back from Malaysia. The next day Julie, Hien and Khoa decided to go Bungee Jumping. I thought it was quite expensive so I offered to take photos of them instead. During the afternoon we walked along Legian street and visited the Bali Bombing memorial. At night we had dinner at Jimbaran Bay and there was no on on the beach. The restaurants were desserted and the Balinese waiters were so happy to have customers. They said since the Bali bombing business had gone really down. I felt so sorry for them because they were really nice people. We had a seafood feast and were seranaded by a live band - whom sneakingly waited around for a tip.

Cyling in Ubud

The next our group booked a full day cycling tour. We drove all the way up the mountains to see the Agung volcano then cycled all the way down again. We dropped by a small village to play volleyball with the children and was lucky to see an Odalan Ceremony (Celebration of a temple). This tour was probably one of my favorite tours because we were away from crazy busy Kuta.

Elephants and Tanah Lot

The following day we headed to an Elephant Farm and drove south of West of Bali to see Tanah Lot. Tanah Lot is a temple that is errected in the middle of the ocean. The only way to get close to it is at low tide. The area is famous for it's sunset, unfortunately for us there was an overcast of clouds on the day but we saw the sun nevertheless.

White water rafting

Yes we went white water rafting again. The tour went for half an hour and we plunged 3m from a cliff. The plunged was probably the only exciting part of the tour - we felt that the river we raft down was man made and unrealistic. "Why are there so many fallen trees...?" - "They probably knocked it down to add more excitment."

If you ever stay in Bali you have to eat at Poppies Lane - it's like a secret garden restaurant. Yummy food!

Uluwatu

Seeing that we were leaving the next day we thought we would drive down to Uluwatu to watch a Kecak Dance (A monkey dance based on the Ramayana story). At the outside venue a monkey stole my hat and I had to pay a man $4 to get my hat back. Dam conman!

A monkey also stole Julie's glasses, I'm unsure to how she got them back but I would say a little persuasion of money and food helped her get her glasses back.
