Hong Kong 2007

Two Indonesian /ESL teachers back from their teaching practicum in South Korea, with a transit in Hong Kong why wouldn't you stay a couple of days before coming home? Hehe.

Rina is probably one of my closest Indonesian friends from uni, she is such an inspiring individual. She looked after her family back in Java, came to Australia to get an education, studied English (her English grammar is probably better than mine!), worked really hard and is respected by all her siblings back at home. She was my rock whilst we were together in Hong Kong and I had an absolutely great time with her.

On the first day in Hong Kong we wanted to see the most talked about attraction "The Big Buddha" since we were pretty tight on cash we decided not to do a tour, "If the locals can do it - so can we!". We got up early in the morning and had breakfast at Mc Donalds. Laying out a large map on our table we pondered..."So how do we get there?". Luckily for us two ladies we were befriend by a guy name Richard (from the UK) who had been holidaying in HK for a couple of weeks and offered to show us what ferry and buses we need to catch to get the Big Buddha.

He was a life saver! He jscribbled on a piece of paper all the directions and after two hours we finally made it! The feeling that Rina and I felt when we got there was one of achievement, "Omg..we're here Fiona!" Rina and I were so proud of ourselves. It only cost us about $6 to get there instead of $50 for a tour. *Hi five*

The next couple of nights we shop at the markets, ate seafood on the streets, got our hair done at a Honky salon and watched a HK movie at the local cinemas. This is one special trip I had with Rina - two foreign girls in a foreign country taking the world on.
